Specialty Services

ACLD is committed to providing a variety of services for children and adults with learning and developmental disabilities.  We pride ourselves on responding to emerging needs and developing programs to meet these needs.  At the present time, individuals on the autism spectrum as well as those that are aging, have been recognized as groups in need of distinct services.  The following programs have been developed to meet these needs and we continue to develop initiatives.

Services for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

ACLD has a long history of providing full range of services to individuals on the autism spectrum. Currently, over three hundred people on the spectrum and across all age ranges get their educational, therapeutic, vocational, recreational, health and medical needs met by ACLD service components. ACLD has worked with the University of Pittsburgh, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt University in Tennessee over the past decades seeking out current state-of-the-art approaches in educating and supporting individuals on the spectrum and their families. Some of the services and supports have been developed based on the unique needs of people with autism. Others may be more generic in nature, but as with all of ACLD's programs the needs of the individual drive the nature of the service. The ultimate goal has always been to get the person with autism to be as fully integrated as possible into regular population whether that is at the childhood educational level or the adult vocational level.
