Family Support Services

ACLD's Family Support Services Programs assist the families of individuals with developmental disabilities with the goal of maintaining their family member within the family unit. This is accomplished by providing the following educational and respite services:

Family Member Training:

Information and Referral; Life-Planning Assistance; Transition Planning Awareness; Community Awareness

In-Home Respite:

Provides short-term relief (up to 15 hours per month) for caregivers of individuals with a developmental disability over the age of three. Services are provided in the family's home.

School Vacation Respite:

This is a grant program that provides inclusionary camp experiences to school aged children ages 5 – 12, and teens ages 15 – 17, who have a documented developmental disability and reside at home with a primary caregiver.

  • Holiday Camp – This camp is run during the Spring (April) and Winter (December) school breaks, for children ages 5 – 12, at two (2) Suffolk County community sites.
  • Summer Camp- This inclusionary camp runs through the first six weeks of the summer and provides three-week camp sessions to children ages 5 – 12.
  • Counselor in Training (CIT) – This is a six- week inclusionary program providing teens  ages 15 – 17 with recreation opportunities, and training to develop skills needed to be a camp counselor.
